5G NR Terminal Based Measurements with DingLi’s Pilot Pioneer

On June 6, 2019, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China issued the 5G licenses for commercial use to China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom and China Broadcast Network, indicating that China has begun to enter the 5G era. DingLi seizes the opportunity and has already participated in the testing stages for the 5G network development.

DingLi, one of the few companies that has signed a long-term 5G-chipset ICD (Interface Control Document) agreement with HiSilicon, delivers a sophisticated 5G test and measurement solution based on terminals with HiSilicon 5G chipset.

In cooperation with China's key 5G mobile network operators (MNO) and global system vendors, DingLi had the opportunity to jointly conduct initial field test to verify the 5G Standalone (SA) mobile network features and performance. Such invaluable experience provides an insight into the current 5G SA development progress, as well as (future) technical requirements for its network testing. This information is crucial to meet the demands for sophisticated 5G test and measurement requirements.

The 5G SA field test was conducted using DingLi's Pilot Pioneer 5G solution with Balong 5000 chipset-based Huawei Mate20X terminal. The measurement verification includes accessibility, coverage, mobility, and high speed data (with low latency) performance.

5G Test and Measurement

High Speed Data Rate Test

The actual data rate for outdoor stationary test exceeds 1.1Gbps. The 5G DL throughput for RLC, MAC, PHY and application layers are displayed in real time in Pilot Pioneer.

Low Latency Test

The average Ping delay for outdoor stationary test is 7.8ms and jitter (delay variation) is 0. The 5G measurement parameters and service KPIs are analyzed and presented statistically in Pilot Pioneer.

Coverage Distance Test

Pilot Pioneer may be used to verify the relationship between the 5G cell SSB beam coverage distance with the data download rate and radio signal quality, display as GIS information.

Measurement Parameters

Comprehensive 5G NR measurement parameters supported by the 5G chipset terminal are presented by Pilot Pioneer in real-time.
