Dingli’s First Overseas Frequency Re-Planning Project In South Africa

In 2018, Dingli Corp Ltd’s mobile network services division delivered its first overseas project in South Africa. It is a challenging project both technically and delivery schedule wise. With different network infrastructure and frequency planning strategy to that in China, the project demands higher accuracy of interference matrix generation for any frequency re-planning and optimization decision. Despite these challenges the project was a success.

Together with field engineers from ZTE, Dingli services team was able to formulate a thorough frequency and optimization plan that consists of network exceptions detection, neighbor list optimization, non-co-BSIC between intra-frequency cells in close vicinity, measurement reports collection and others. The outcome was an improved network quality and subscribers' experience.

Project Overview

The Republic of South Africa, located in the Southern Hemisphere and the southernmost African continent with an area of 1,219,090,000 square kilometers, boasting the reputation of Rainbow Nation, is surrounded by Indian Ocean and Atlantic to its east, south, and west side.

Radio Network Scale

1476 base stations with 3872 cells and 9000 carrier frequency. These are densely commissioned in the southwest region, but more sparsely distributed in the northwest and northeast region with a distance of over 20km between sites.  

The project began in August 2018 and shall be delivered in 5 stages to ensure existing network continuity while gradually improves the overall performance. The tireless effort and constant (odd hours) communication for consultation and information exchange by the field engineers with their counterpart in China ensures the efficiency and accuracy of the optimization project. This is evident through the recognition given by the end customer.

The first round of the project has been completed, and the next stage shall commence in the second half of the year. This project has been a valuable experience for Dingli’s network services to lay the foundation and expand its overseas business, while strengthening the cooperation with customers in South Africa.
